George W. Turner, a MACS-8 Marine,
shares the achievements of his son
Christopher in 2002

Our son received a heart transplant at UCLA Medical Center in 1992;
for his "10th anniversary" he wanted to do something "special".
His sister nominated him and he was chosen to be
a Torch Bearer for the 2002 Winter Olympics.

UCLA had been utilizing my son in a promotional video they were making.
Initially, UCLA wanted to send a video crew to Coronado Island
to tape his January 2002 run; instead, they obtained his segment from the
Olympic Organizing Committee's "official tape" and
incorporated it into their promotional film.

On February 14, 2002, the Gift of the Heart Foundation--
the fund-raising vehicle for UCLA's heart transplant program--
held their annual "Sweet Heart's Ball" at a Beverly Hills Hotel.
Our son and his wife were invited to attend--to view their completed video.
Guests of Honor included General James L. Jones, then Commandant.
